Minor in Economics

The department makes minoring in economics a convenient option for students interested in adding some rigor to their program of study. Majors in other fields, such as international relations, business, political science, engineering major to name just a few, may find their job prospects considerably enhanced if they supplement their major studies with formal training in economics and the statistical tools that economists use.

Requirements for the Minor in Economics

A. Required Courses for the Minor (12 credit hours)

  • ECO 2013 Principles of Macroeconomics
  • ECO 2023 Principles of Microeconomics
  • ECO 3101 Intermediate Microeconomics
  • ECO 3203 Intermediate Macroeconomics

B. Elective Courses for the Minor (6 credit hours)

Any two additional economics courses, except the following: ECO3041, ECO3202, ECO3949, ECO4906 and ECO4949.

Notes:

Business majors who are considering minoring in Economics should not take ECO 3202: Applied Macroeconomics. Instead, take ECO 3203: Intermediate Macroeconomics. It will substitute for Applied Macro, and is also one of the courses required for the minor. However, Applied Macro does not satisfy the requirement for Intermediate Macro.
