Transfer Credit Policy
If you are transferring to FIU from another institution where you completed Economics courses, you should be aware of the following policies governing the assignment of transfer credit to Economics majors and minors:
- FIU Economics majors are required to complete (with a C or better) each of the following courses at FIU or at another Florida state public university, regardless of whether they have completed equivalent coursework elsewhere: ECO 3101, ECO 3203, ECO 4421, ECO 4903, and two electives from the following list: ECO4100, ECO 4224, ECO4237, ECO 4400, ECO 4401, ECO 4504, ECO 4703, ECO 4713, ECO 4934, ECP 4031, ECP 4203, ECP 4204, ECP 4314, ECP4403, ECS4013, ECS4014.
- FIU Economics minors are required to complete (with a C or better) the following courses at FIU or at another Florida state public university, regardless of whether they have completed equivalent coursework elsewhere: ECO 3101, and ECO 3203.
- Transfer students may receive FIU credit for Economics courses completed elsewhere that are judged by the Department of Economics to be equivalent in content to courses that it offers, provided that the total number transferred credit hours does not exceed the limits set by the University (60 lower division credits; 30 upper division credits) and at least 50% of required upper division Economics courses must be completed at FIU. To request course equivalency, students must provide an electronic copy of the syllabus for the course in question for review, and they must have earned a C or higher in the course for it to be considered. NOTE: Equivalency is not guaranteed and is at the discretion of the faculty reviewers for the Department.
